Robert Chesley
Osborn was born October 26, 1904, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was
an American cartoonist, illustrator and author. Osborn enlisted in
the U.S. Navy when World War II began with hopes of becoming a Naval
Aviator but was placed in a special information unit where pilot training
manuals were produced. Osborn's character, "Dilbert The Pilot" was
portrayed as an ignorant and blundering pilot that put himself and his
crew members at risk. Osborn produced thousands of individual
drawings used in Navy training manuals and educational posters. Some of
our favorite Dilbert The Pilot posters are shown below. All of the
posters were scanned in high resolution from the originals and were
contributed by Jason McKeon of Springtown, Texas.
